If you know anything about me, you know that I am an extremely organized person. I cannot function in a messy environment. This has been “me” since I was a child – just ask my mom. I would re-organize her kitchen, fluff the pillows regularly, and not have as much of a hair tie out on my dresser before going to sleep. Having an organized home has and always will be an important part of who I am. Figuring out ways to practically implement it as my life grows is the key.
Do you feel like your home needs a declutter and major organization? Are you a secret hoarder? You know the person with all of the extra junk in the closets and cabinets that are never used or touched. Then it is probably time you take a step towards decluttering and organizing. If you’ve been hesitating when it comes to the clutter, it is probably because you feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. Sharing the tips I use daily to help you maintain an organized and clutter-free home.
Purge Your Home Regularly
Get rid of all of the extra stuff that you are keeping but haven’t touched in a long time. Go through your clothes, kitchen cabinets, books, movies, etc. Making sure you only have what you need and use is the key to keeping your home clutter-free. Tackle one space at a time as this allows you to make quick progress which in turn motivates you to complete more.
As you are purging separate the stuff into two boxes. You need a throw-away box that you place anything in that goes in the trash. Then you will have your donation box for anything worthy of reuse by another person.
Be Intentional About Purchases
If you assess your shopping upfront, you will have less stuff accumulating over time. The item either needs to (1) be a necessity or (2) something I love so much that I can’t live without (these are typically my clothing pieces or décor items).
Make Sure Everything Has a Place
The first thing you need to ensure is that everything has a place in your home. When things don’t have a place, clutter begins to take over. This makes cleaning up the messes quick and easy.
Have a Junk Drawer
This might seem counterintuitive, but I think this is a necessary part of staying organized (but don’t think it isn’t an organized junk drawer). We all have those items that really don’t belong anywhere specific. Things such as pens, rulers, notepads, etc. Ours is in our laundry room, which makes it easy to put things in there and keep our house clutter-free.
Use Organizers Throughout Your Home
This enables you to store your things in the most efficient and attractive manner. Invest in bins, baskets, and containers to manage and organize items. By doing so, you are allowing each space to be used wisely.
Daily Pick Up & Maintenance Clean
Set aside a few minutes every day to sweep the house allowing you to pick up everything and place it where it belongs. This allows the clutter to not get continue to get worse to the point that it requires a significant amount of your time. It only needs to be 5-1o minutes each day. By using your time wisely each day you will notice that everything remains fairly clutter-free.
Less is More Mentality
Having the mentality that you don’t need more stuff is imperative to an organized home. The less stuff you have, the easier it is to stay organized.
Hope these tips are helpful in your journey to a clutter-free and organized home!
xx,
Ashley
