Loving yourself can be hard. I think it is a topic that several of us struggle with. You look in the mirror and don’t see beauty. You see yourself as overweight. You are stressed out and just couldn’t possibly find anytime for yourself. All of this is so common, but we need to find ways to love ourselves more. Sharing 5 ways I love myself better below!
1. RESTING IN THE TRUTH
God’s truth is knowing that you are not defined by the way you look and realizing you are created in the likeness of Him! Cling to these truths when you find yourself not loving what you feel or see!
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:14 NIV)
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” (1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV)
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27 NIV)
2. BE KIND TO YOURSELF
I think this one is one of the hardest. We tend to be so harsh on ourselves.First thing when I wake up and brush my teeth, I see the un-tamed mane and bags under my eyes. It is hard not to talk down to myself in those moments, but I am slowly realizing that this isn’t a great start to my day ahead.
I think talking positively to yourself can make a big difference in your situation, your day and your life! Remaining negative about whatever it is only makes your day worse! Let’s acknowledge our feelings of frustration with the outfit or bags under the eyes, but choose to speak positively to ourselves and work towards creating a better situation!
Learn to accept yourself, shortcomings and all. Be gentle with yourself.
3. FIND TIME FOR YOURSELF EACH DAY TO DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE
This one is so important because sometimes we get so caught up in our lives, we forget about ourselves! Whether you enjoy yoga, reading, bubble baths, a Netflix show, dancing or listening to music, I challenge you to find time do one thing you love each day! It can be for 10 minutes, but that 10 minutes can help clear your mind and refreshen you to be the best version of yourself!
4. FORGIVE YOURSELF
We see forgiveness as such an important thing when it comes to our relationships, but I think we often times forget how important it is to forgive ourselves. We are going to make mistakes, but forgive yourself and learn from them!
5. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF
This is so important. Be who YOU are and who God created you to be. You are EXACTLY the way God designed you to be. He doesn’t make mistakes, so stop comparing and live purposefully for your creator!
Loving yourself is so important. We need to treasure who God created us to be and live confidently through Him!
Do you have any other ways to love yourself better you would add to the list? I would love to know, so leave them in a comment below!

ugh FORGIVE YOURSELF… YES! I say “ugh” because people just do NOT do this enough! We really need to learn to be easier on ourselves for our imperfections, our mistakes, our setbacks, etc. We are all just works in progress!

Lovely post! Similar to doing things you love, but I like to find ways to “invest” in myself. Like learning something new, practicing a talent, or taking time to look put together. Serving others with a happy heart helps me love myself better too.

After a long day home with 3 kids, I really needed to read this. It’s so easy to be hard on yourself for the littlest things, and never do anything about making ourselves feel better for being human. Thank you so much for writing this, it really is so important to remember.

You are so welcome! Glad it touched you just when you needed it!
