Making collages is a part of almost every bloggers routine as you want to share daily sales and items you love. Mastering collages takes time spent learning and practicing the skills. It is something I have loved learning and doing over the years, so I wanted to share the steps on how to create collages for free in Canva.
How I Create Collages For Free In Canva
1. Gather all of the photos from retailers. These can be screenshots, saved photos (right click and save as), etc. Make sure all of the photos are in one place for easy access. I usually place them on my desktop then delete them after uploading. Another option is to copy each photo and paste them into your graphic on Canva.
2. If you are on the free version of Canva, you can remove all backgrounds from photos on Remove.bg. On the paid version, you can remove backgrounds under edit when you click on the photo. This website is extremely helpful because it allows you to upload a photo and download it with no background. If you remove backgrounds, you can layer products over one another.
3. When configuring size, it truly depends on what you are using the collage for. Canva has template sizes for almost everything from Pinterest to Instagram stories. The only one I create a custom size for is LIKEtoKNOW.it and I use the dimensions 1080 x 1350 (which fits the 4:5 ratio perfectly).
4. Upload all of the photos into Canva to start creating your collage. Just click on upload on the left side. Click ‘Upload Media’ then ‘Device.’ You can hold down Control or Command while you click each photo and then upload them all at once.
5. Now you get to be creative. Insert all of your photos into the collage and play around with the layout until you are happy with the result. If you removed the backgrounds, you can layer items on top of each other.
6. Insert your text. Utilize the many different fonts that Canva has to offer and hone in on your style. If you are on the paid version of Canva and want a specific font, upload a font into Canva under ‘Brand Kit.’ You can search for types of fonts by typing in words such as scripts or display. If you hit the word ‘Effects’ in the top menu bar, you can change the way the text presents. This allows you to create effects such as hollow letters or a shadow behind letters.
7. Utilize the ‘Elements’ tab on the left to add things such as boxes, circles, stars, numbers, hearts, etc. This is where your style gets to blossom!
I know making collages might not be everyone’s specialty, so I have created templates that are for sale here. You get 20 pre-made templates ready for you to add your photos to for $12. I am also offering monthly packages of making individualized collages for clients. If you would like more information, you can email me at ashleybwelborn@gmail.com.
