We open our Facebook or Instagram app. We see women who we perceive as skinnier, have better skin, better style, or who look prettier. Whatever it is, we let comparison take over.
It is something I think a lot of us struggle with, including myself. We see others and we want to be skinnier, have better skin, better style, better photos. The list could go on.
It is a struggle with self rejection, body hate, and comparison!
We need to stop comparing ourselves and celebrate who we are!
Rounding up what I am learning in this season below!
1. CELEBRATE WHO GOD CREATED YOU TO BE
I desire this for everyone. We should be confident in who we are in Jesus and not worry about comparing ourselves to others.
“I would rather be what GOD CHOSE to make me than the most glorious creature that I could think of, for to have been thought about, born in God’s thoughts, and then made by God, is the dearest, most precious, and grandest thing in all thinking” – George McDonald
God doesn’t make mistakes. He made you just the way YOU are. Meaning you are who God created you to be! Yes we can strive for excellence in what we are doing, but sometimes we get so caught up in the comparing and hoping for whatever it is that we miss the opportunity to truly celebrate where we are in our own journey!
We should celebrate who God created us to be and live purposefully in our calling!
2. TAKE STEPS BACK
If it is social media that fuels the fire, the take a step back. Whatever it is, take a break from it. I find myself looking at pictures on Instagram and seeing these “perfect” lives and “perfect” people. In reality, they are not perfect. These are just perfect glimpses (that may look perfect) into their imperfect lives.
Sometimes we need to take breaks from whatever it is that stimulates these thoughts of body hate, comparison, and self rejection!
3. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH ENCOURAGING AND UPLIFTING FRIENDS
Sometimes we need encouragement when we are down in the dumps and our false thinking is taking over!
This goes both ways. Be an encouraging and uplifting friend. Surround yourself with encouraging and uplifting friends. Find people who encourage you in Jesus and who are uplifting. Find people who help you correct false thinking and point you back to scripture.
In my opinion, this is a vital component in your walk with Jesus!
“Lift one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” – Romans 12:10
4. GET IN GOD’S WORD TO DISCOVER WHO YOU ARE IN JESUS
God tells us in scripture so many times who we are!
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9
“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:14
Get in the word. You are part of the body of Christ, created in the image of God, a chosen people, and you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Go live your life with purpose!
“We won’t be distracted with comparison if we are captivated with purpose.” – Bob Goff
Things don’t change overnight! We have to continuously correct our hearts and practice healthy ways of combatting comparing ourselves!

Yes, until you find out who you are in Christ, you will wander aimlessly. I see so many blogs that point to meditation but not Jesus. It’s just mindless bunk.
